Ever since I could read I've really loved reading books. I probably actually read more books in my spare time when I was between roughly the age 7 to about 10 than I do now, my favourite authors when I was a child were definitely Jacqueline Wilson and Enid Blyton. Nevertheless, I still love reading just as much but I have less spare time. So reading books as an AS level is great because technically it won't be my spare time because it's supposedly studying, but really it's something I would enjoy to do in my spare time.
I chose to study English literature at AS level mainly for the reason that I simply enjoy reading fictional books and interpreting what I think the author meant by the things they say, I find it really interesting. I also love that I can completely zone out when reading a book and let my imagination take me away.
I find that even though I do enjoy reading, I tend to find it harder to get into a book when it's a book I have chosen to read in my spare time, whereas the books which are chosen for me to read or are suggested to me by people I always seem to enjoy much more which is another reason I chose to do English literature AS level - to discover more interesting books as there are thousands out there!
I also chose to study English literature AS level because I love how reading good books and interpreting them not only makes me see more depth in the book but also in the outside world. I feel that reading books has helped me see the world and life in a better way.
Some people are ashamed to admit it but I really did enjoy reading the Twilight saga books by Stephanie Meyer and I also do love to read a good romance book too, my favourite author for romance books is Nicolas Sparks. However I have got a list of books which I would like to read which are quite different to ones I have read before and I am also enjoying reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood which we are currently reading in English literature.
Fabulous reasons for taking Literature. If you have time, try some of the books on the reading list I gave you. Enjoy!
